In April we supplied refreshments, light lunches and teas over the two days for Bodmin Nursery Spring Festival raising around £1,100 – again, with very grateful thanks to Mark and Linda Lawlor..
Also in April another walk was planned from Padstow to Stepper Point and back, led by Vic Luke – the weather was inclement so this was postponed until 23rd Jul.y
And then, of course, our fete, which is held every year in June, is the biggest fundraiser – Donna Birrell of BBC Radio Cornwall opened the fete in the most charming manner and, in all, around £6000 was raised for BHLF and other participating charities.
The walk planned for April from Padstow to Stepper Point was held in July on the most gorgeous day when the sky was blue, the sea was azure and the wheat fields were golden, raising over £500.
Another stand at Wadebridge Rotary’s ‘Wheels’ event in July – we are so very grateful to Wadebridge Rotary for allowing us a presence there again.
In July we were chosen to be Sainsbury’s, Bodmin, Charity of the Year which was wonderful news – we kicked off with Lady Molesworth-St Aubyn, our President, opening the Argos section of Sainsbury’s followed by three ‘collecting’ days there in August..
A Coffee morning combined with a Soup and Dessert Lunch was held at the Methodist Church in Bodmin in October raising £403..
Vic Luke organised a ‘Carry On from Sainsbury’s’ walk in November when a group of cowboys, Indian squaws, military looking types and a couple of nurses and doctors together with dogs set off from Sainsbury’s to the Borough Arms and back raising nearly £500.
In December we had three more ‘collecting’ days at Sainsbury’s at which, on the Friday Wadebrige Male Voice Choir came to sing and on the Saturday the Washaway Gallery Choir – both groups were superb, bringing joy and Christmas cheer to the many customers.
Every year we sing carols around the wards before Christmas with our lovely soloist, Annabelle Cowling and accompanied by the excellent accordion playing of Mark Hawken; we lay a wreath in Bodmin on Remembrance Sunday and decorate a tree in St Petrocs Church for their Christmas tree festival.
